Tyler Bergfield
Tyler Bergfield's artwork has many influences, the most recognizable ones being children's books, existentialist philosopher-authors, and his own dreams. The children's books often provide his characters with an innocent or nostalgic sense, fitting for dream-imagery. Through the existential authors he has sought to understand the value of human actions and their motivation. Though this outpost be dark one, Tyler also recognizes a great levity in life; and this lightness is projected into the work--not to denigrate the human tragedy; on the contrary, to develop it; to call attention to the seriousness of the human situation, to see that situation in its depth. Tyler's dreams, remembered and recorded, are the impetus and setting for the lion's share of his artworks. It is in dreams that he finds much of that levity; seeing through them, relationships akin to psychedelic art and thinking, and finding a backdrop able to withstand the most bizarre and confusing happenings and scenario. Being influenced thusly, Tyler tries to create images that grasp the sense of subconscious, if not directly via precise images, then through an arrangement of characters or parts.
